Dance Class Etiquette
Whether you're stepping into a dance studio for the very first time or returning after years away, we're excited to have you at Ballet Folklorico DFW! The following guidelines help create a positive, respectful, and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Arrive on Time
Please arrive 5–10 minutes before class begins so you have time to put on your dance shoes, use the restroom if needed, and be ready to start class on time. Check in with the receptionist who takes attendance. After 5 minutes the classroom doors remain closed and dancers are no longer allowed to enter the classroom.

Be Ready to Learn
Come to class with a positive attitude and a willingness to try new things. Everyone learns at a different pace, and mistakes are a natural part of becoming a dancer.

Show Respect
Respect your instructors, fellow dancers, parents, volunteers, and our studio space. Kindness, encouragement, and good sportsmanship are expected at all times.

Listen While Others Are Speaking
When the instructor is giving directions or demonstrating choreography, give them your full attention. Do not tap while the instructor is speaking. This helps everyone learn safely and efficiently.

Give Your Best Effort
You don't have to be perfect—you just have to try your best. Growth comes through practice, consistency, and perseverance.

Keep a Positive Environment
Celebrate your classmates' successes, encourage one another, and help make the studio a place where everyone feels welcome and supported. We welcome questions and value open communication. If you have a concern, please email us to schedule private meeting rather than discussing it during class or in front of dancers and other families. We are committed to working together to find solutions.

Take Care of the Studio
Help us keep our studio clean by throwing away trash, keeping food outside the dance room and lobby and treating equipment and studio property with care.

Cell Phones
To help dancers stay focused, cell phones and smart devices should remain put away during class unless the instructor gives permission to use them.
​
Stay Hydrated
Bring a labeled water bottle to every class. Water breaks will be provided as needed.
​
Ask Questions
Don't be afraid to ask questions! Our instructors are here to help, and we want every dancer to feel confident and successful.

Parent Etiquette & Expectations
Welcome to the Ballet Folklorico DFW family! We believe that a positive partnership between families and our staff helps every dancer succeed. Thank you for helping us create a welcoming, respectful, and supportive environment for all.

Arrive on Time
Please arrive a few minutes early so your dancer is ready to begin class on time. Prompt arrivals and pick-ups help classes run smoothly and allow every student to receive the full benefit of instruction.
If you are late, get your dancer ready in the lobby and quietly send your dancer into the room by themselves. After 5 minutes the classroom doors remain closed and your dancer is no longer allowed to enter the classroom.
For pick up, parents must be inside the studio lobby 5 minutes prior to dismissal. We do not dismiss to the parking lot for the dancer's safety.

Encourage Independence
As dancers grow, we encourage them to take responsibility for carrying their own dance bag, putting on their shoes (and skirt), and following their instructor's directions. These small responsibilities help build confidence and independence.

Support from the Sidelines
During class, we ask that parents allow instructors to teach without interruption. Parents are allowed to observe their dancer from the lobby window, so please enjoy watching them discretely so all dancers can remain focused.

Positive Communication
We welcome questions and value open communication. Our teachers have a short break between classes so we encourage our dance families to message their questions ahead of time on Band rather than in person. If you have a concern that should be addressed to the director, please email us (balletfolkloricodfw@gmail.com) to schedule a private meeting rather than discussing it during class or in front of dancers and other families. We are committed to working together to find solutions.

Celebrate Every Dancer
Every child learns at their own pace. We encourage families to celebrate effort, progress, and personal growth rather than comparing dancers to one another.

Help Your Dancer Be Prepared
Please make sure your dancer arrives with the appropriate attire, shoes, hair neatly secured, and a labeled water bottle. Please make sure that your dancer uses the bathroom at home or before class to minimize distractions. Being prepared allows your dancer to participate safely and confidently.
Attendance Matters
Consistent attendance is one of the greatest predictors of success. Regular on-time participation helps dancers build confidence, retain choreography, and contribute to the class as a whole.

Respect Our Community
Please help us maintain a welcoming environment by treating instructors, staff, volunteers, dancers, and fellow families with kindness and respect. We celebrate diversity, teamwork, and a shared appreciation for Mexican culture.

Stay Connected
Important announcements, reminders, and schedule updates are shared through the Band App. We encourage our parents to keep their Band App notifications on so you don't miss important information.

Trust the Process
Learning dance takes time. Some skills develop quickly, while others require patience and practice. Celebrate your dancer's progress and remember that confidence grows one class at a time.
