Dress Code & Supply List

Please note that this page contains Amazon Affiliated Links for products we recommend our dancers purchase.

Why We Have a Dress Code

A consistent dress code helps instructors see proper body alignment, allows dancers to move safely, and creates a focused learning environment. It also helps dancers feel like part of our studio community. New students may wear comfortable athletic clothing and tennis shoes for their first class if they don't yet have the appropriate attire.

General Expectations

All dancers should:

  • Arrive dressed and ready for class.

  • Wear clean, properly fitting dance attire.

  • Wear the correct dance shoes for their class.

  • Keep long hair neatly secured away from the face.

  • Remove large jewelry before class.

  • Bring a labeled water bottle.

  • Leave gum, food, and drinks (other than water) outside the dance room.

Where to purchase dance attire

For your convenience, we've created a list of our recommended dancewear and supplies.

Shop Our Amazon Favorites HERE.

Other supplies listed have already been linked above.

Ballet Folklorico DFW T-Shirts:

Folklorico DFW T-shirts can be purchased at the studio. Please speak with our receptionist to purchase your shirt. All dancers are required to own a black Ballet Folklorico DFW t shirt regardless of which class they are in should as this is a used as a uniform to our public performances. In addition to the t-shirt folklorico students can wear a black leotard to class in lieu of the t shirt. However, ballet classes require a leotard to be worn (not a t shirt).

Practice Skirts:

It is recommended you purchase your practice skirt through the studio. Prices are $40-$50 depending on size. Dancers may make or purchase a single solid colored skirt else however please ensure the skirt has no ribbons as these are sometimes used as uniforms for performances.

Folklorico Shoes/Boots:

Dancers are required to purchase Black Folklorico shoes (girls)/ botines (boys) as part of the performance uniform. Please be sure you purchase a folklorico shoe and not a character shoe (see this video to understand the difference).

The studio places a bulk orders for shoes once a semester ($45-$65). Please speak to the receptionist on the first day of class to place your order. Shoes can be purchased in person at La Gran Plaza ($75-$150). To order online, we recommend Camerino 8, Sabor de Mexico by Irene, or Folkicks.

Classical Ballet/Jazz attire:

To purchase ballet/ jazz attire in person, we recommend 5678 Dancerwear Defined located at 475 W Southlake Blvd, Southlake, TX 76092
